LNL: HIGH LEVEL APPLICATION FOR BEAM TRAJECTORY CORRECTION AND 6D PHASE-SPACE CHARACTERIZATION FOR HIGH BRIGHTNESS ELECTRON LINACS
LABORATORI NAZIONALI DI LEGNARO
Operation of modern particle accelerators require high brightness beam and sensitive diagnostic system in order to monitor and characterize the beam during the acceleration and transport. For ELI-NP-GBS has been developed a turn-key high level software fully integrated and consistent with the control system able to provide the 6D phase space beam characterization, ensure the beam trajectory and guarantee a challenging performance of electron bunches. ELI-NP Gamma Beam System (GBS) provides tuneable gamma rays with narrow bandwidth (0.3%) and an high spectral density (10 4 photons/sec/eV) by Compton backscattering effect. BOLINA (Beam Orbit for LINear Accelerators) is developed to match the ELI-NP-GBS commissioning requirement and, at the same time, it is flexible and scalable to satisfy requirements of all types of linear accelerators. BOLINA is designed in Python (an object oriented and interpreted code) to be machine independent and fully consistent and integrated with any type of control system. BOLINA high level software has been tested using simulated raw data through multiple simulations of ELI-NP-GBS accelerator affected by misalignments, jitters and magnetic errors. Such simulations has been performed, for the injector, with the ASTRA tracking code, that consider space-charge forces, while booster and transfer lines tolerances have been studied with elegant. The orbit optimization algorithm of BOLINA has been benchmarked with elegant; a comparison campaign results in a good overall agreement and optimum performances in terms of resolving time and emittance preservations.
