LNL: FRANCIS OSSWALD, SPIRAL 2 RIB'S TRANSPORT: FROM PRODUCTION TO RE-ACCELERATION
LABORATORI NAZIONALI DI LEGNARO
The RIB transport facility of the SPIRAL 2 project will be presented through a view over the general specifications, the definition of the beam line layout and the expected performances. Some aspects concerning beam optics, safety rules, maintenance and project management will be highlighted. Starting from an incoming deuteron primary beam at 40 MeV and 5 mA impinging a neutron converter producing an intense flux of fast neutrons, the induced 10^14 fission per second in the Uranium Carbide target located upstream the converter, then the ion source placed inside a module surrounded by a radiological shielding, the different beam line section enabling the transport from the TIS to the users will be described. An analysis of the behaviour of the high current and multi species beam extracted from the TIS will be proposed. How the beam will be controlled along the line and diagnostics integrated. Most of the equipments dedicated to the production of ions are radioactive and contaminated. Some of them have to be repaired and replaced with the help of remote handling tools. A conditioning and a transfer of the equipment inside a hot-cell is requested to ensure that the radioactivity confinement is maintained. Finally, some perspectives will be discussed on how the construction of the collaborative project will be managed over the time taking into account the economic constraints. Keywords : RIB, beam optics, safety rules, nuclear maintenance, project organization
