LNL: ANDREA GOZZELINO, COMPACT MUON SOLENOID EXPERIMENT: PHYSICS AND COMPUTING
LABORATORI NAZIONALI DI LEGNARO
Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a multipurpose experiment in high energy physics (HEP) and particle physics. It is installed since 2008 in an underground cavern along the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) tunnel at CERN. The seminar covers the description of experimental apparatus - remember that Drift Tube (DT) chambers were build also at LNL -, the Higgs boson searches in Standard Model (SM) and in Supersimmetric models (as Minimal SuperSimmetric Model) with all channels, an overview on other fields such as Exotica and B physics in which the Padua group is involved. Studies are shown with data collected in 2011 (integrated luminosity of about 5 /fb), just one month after the data taking restarting in 2012. Finally, history and performance of CMS Tier2 in LNL are pointed out showing the key role of the computing center and GRID in experimental HEP.
