1-Recent data on the elastic scattering of 16O+27Al at 100 MeV confirm, up to ~75 degrees in the center of mass, the Sao Paulo Potential Coupled Channel calculations. These calculations predict a nuclear rainbow pattern in the far-side component of the nuclear scattering, which is not expected for such heavy-ion system, since internal trajectories become strongly absorbed, as inferred from standard optical model calculations. The classical trajectories and the polarization potentials for this system are studied in order to help to understand the phenomenon. 2- Stimulated by the predictions and first experimental results of a nuclear rainbow pattern in the elastic scattering of relatively heavy ions, some of the semi-classical approaches to this phenomenon are reviewed, including the WKB approximation with extension to complex trajectories and complex angular momenta.
