FILIPPO VERNIZZI IPHT, Saclay, France: The BICEP2 collaboration recently announced the detection of B-mode polarization in the cosmic microwave background. This signal has been interpreted as induced by primordial gravitational waves generated during a phase of cosmic inflation. If confirmed, it would be very important theoretical and observation breakthrough in cosmology. I will review the predictions from inflation, present the main results of BICEP2 experiment and discuss their implications.
