LNL: G. MARTIN HERNANDEZ, BEAM LINE FOR NUCLEAR ASTROPHYSICS AT LNL
LABORATORI NAZIONALI DI LEGNARO
A neutron beam line has been developed at the 7-MV Van de Graaff accelerator at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. The purpose of this beam line is to produce thermal energy-tunable Maxwell-Boltzmann-like neutron spectra with a reduced neutron background for integral (n,g) stellar cross section measurements. This setup is intended to be a test bench for the high flux LENOS facility in preparation at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro [P. Mastinu, et.al., Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res. A, 601 (2009) 333]. A neutron time of flight spectrometer is installed and successfully tested. This system is based on a frequency-varying pulsed beam that allows selecting appropriated flight paths for a given neutron energy range. A novel neutron detector with good time resolution and high efficiency has been developed, tested and is currently in operation. After an overview of the BELINA facilities, first experimental results of this setup are reported, in particular, the measurement of the shape of the 7Li(p,n)7Be excitation function near threshold, determined via measuring the reaction neutron spectrum. The preliminary results showed a good agreement with reported cross section values for this reaction.
